Quick Shopping cart 2.3 release
Greetings,
Quick Shopping Cart 2.3 has recently been released and contains the following features.
Improved Tax support:
We've added support for more tax rates down to the zip code level as well as creating the option to exempt certain products from tax. You can activate this feature by going to the State-based tax within the processing tab and then adding in rates for the applicable zip codes for your situation. Additionally, you can now choose whether or not shipping is taxable.
Improved Themes / Customization of CSS stylesheet.
Actually we should boast a little here. Two of the largest user requests we've received that relate to themes have been for the ability to create and use your own CSS and to save and edit different versions of your storefront. We have an in-depth post from one of our engineers, as well as six new help articles to better explain this new functionality and what it can do for you.
Favorite Icon support
Most of you have noticed the icons that often display to the right of the URL in the address bar mirroring the graphical identity of a Web site. Indeed, many of you use them within your stores’ companion Web sites. We've added the ability to use favicons in QSC. A detailed blog entry on how to make the most of this feature is located here.
Thank you all once again for you support, and please keep your feedback and suggestions coming.

Hi,
Is it possible to change the currency symbol from $ to Euro € in the product price field in the Quick Shopping Cart?
Thanks,
Darren.

Greetings Darren,
Presently there's no facility to alter the currency type in the display section. We have this on our roadpmap along with international shipping for a future release.

I have not heard back from you regarding the problem with the security code link at checkout. I have notified Godaddy support so I guess the fix is coming. I know you generally don't give time frames for fixes but this is a real problem. Anyone who clicks on the "what is this?" link next to the security code on the payment page is kicked out of the checkout process and brought to the main page of the cart. We are losing sales needlessly as I imagine this is not a tough issue to correct.
Please see what you can do to get this matter resolved asap. At least have the link removed so it doesn't kick the customer out of the checkout process.
Thank you in advance.

David,
Thanks for following up it looks like the mail is missing in action. I replied to your mail on 2/22/08 regarding this matter to the same address within the post. We've since identified the cause of the error and it 's currently a fix in progress that is planned to be in the next available release.

I like the color and layout of the Racer - A template, but how can I change the image that comes with it? for an example, I would like to replace the red Corvette with another image.
Reply to this
Greetings Derek,
Most of our templates with designs such as the corvette have the same design / layout available without the leading graphic. The same templates usually occur in A and B versions. I think racer B in this case will get you where you want to go.

Jon,
Thanks for your suggestion.
Racer B does have a very similar layout as Racer A, but not the color scheme. my question now is how can I change the racer B color scheme to look like racer A.
Thanks again,
Derrick

Derrick,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Short answer is not easily. The longer answer is yes the template can be changed to get it very close to one of the other schemes but it does require creating the CSS to place within "advanced css" section to match the values on the prior template which is likely to be time consuming depending on your familiarity with CSS. I am puzzled as to why we have different color schemes for what's meant to be a mirrored template and will follow up on that for you.

On the featured stores pop up window on GoDaddy.com there is a site that we love. You can see it here at https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/jump_pages/cart_featured.asp?app%5Fhdr=99&ci=7772 or go directly to that site at http://www.k9bistro.com/. I contacted Go Daddy support and was told that I can do the same thing as this site. I do not like our home page nor any of the templates and want to make a similar home page and link to the store. Is this possible through the admin tool? If not, do I need to order a seperate host package, build a site, and then somehow link each product to the backend?
Reply to this
Greetings Jay,
While it's possible to create the same type of site with QSC you are correct in that it would require a separate hosting account to host your main site and then link the product descriptions to QSC in the same manner as K9 Bistro. So yes you would need to create/ design the front end with a view to integrating QSC and matching the style with a minimal cart like the example given. This site takes their description, links directly to the product in the cart which can then be added the latter part of your question is going to be the easiest to achieve.

Hi,
Is there a way to inventory for items with different options? Such as 5-Large, 3-Medium, 4-small, etc... If this does not exist, will it soon?
Thanks,
Dan

Greetings Dan,
At present the inventory is calculated for the entire product. I'm sorry to say there's no way to split that into colors/ sizes without creating individual products. That workaround fits some QSC owner's needs but for people with a large inventory / many options it gets very messy quickly and we're looking at how to improve on this which is already on our road map for a future build of QSC.

This inventory issue is essential for any good shopping cart. I have been waiting for this to be implemented for some time now. This along with the lack of international order options, is cause for frustration on a daily basis. I am almost ready to throw in the towel.

Greetings Lionel,
Firstly I agree with you on both point especially on the former re inventory. Many of the changes that have been, are being made, are necessary steps to being implement these two options. That being said you are correct that it's frustrating and other than an assurance that both are under active development there's no concrete date available that I could give you to base your decision on.

New Tax Help. Does that mean I can now have a State tax AND a local tax specifically by zip? Thanks
Reply to this
Yes it absolutely does. If a specified Postal Code tax rate matches the Postal Code in an order's shipping address, that corresponding rate is used to calculate tax. If a tax rate has not been specified for the order's shipping address Postal Code, the tax rate specified for the order's shipping address State will be used instead. If the State tax rate has not been specified, 0.0% is the assessed tax rate.
Additionally, you have the option for both the Postal code based tax and the State based tax to include whether or not the shipping price will be included in the price from which the tax is derived.
Thanks for your question!

Just set up quick shopping cart with authorize.net processing. Authorize net informs me your cart sends transaction type code that specifies authorize only on credit cards. I need to authorize and capture, but your tech support people tell me that is imporssible and that each order has to be opened and card captured manually by clicking a button. WHat the heck am I supposed to do when I have dozens of orders? By default, athorize.net authorizes and captures cards unless the order sent to them tells them not to. Why in the world is godaddy telling them not to?
Reply to this
Greetings Nick,
Thank you for your feedback with regards to the manner in which Authorize net payments are made. Support did give you the correct information on how the system is set up. There are a couple of issues here. One is the way in which the cart currently works . e.g have to go into each order and two is that we're not automatically accepting the payment.
We've considered two ways to resolve this. One allow transactions to be accepted in bulk and two accept the payments automatically. The latter is an issue as we don't have a viable refund mechanism presently. So any auto captures would need to route through a separate system timebeing, not ideal and it's a possibility that ties into the way it's currently set up. Why is it this way? There's no specific answer to that question. We're going to reexamine this choice in connection with working on the ability to approve multiple transactions at once.

This seems to be the best place to ask this question. Does anyone know how to display inventory quantities on their respective product pages? My client is using QSC to sell product and we must inventory and not allow backorder because we have no guarantee of product beyond what we have on hand. Therefore, we would like the customer to see exactly what we have in stock before he/she adds it to the shopping cart
Thanks in advance for all your help.

Greetings,
Thanks for the question regarding shopper facing inventory. Presently we do not expose a way to show this on the product pages, there's no workaround either. This has been captured for a future version of the shopping cart. In the meantime we do allow a setting of no back order on items that have ran out. ( they shouldn't show as available for purchase) This falls down on occasions when people try to order 4 of an item were only one was available. The cart would tell your customer that we had to reduce the order to accommodate only those items in stock so there's very little chance of over ordering when you use real time payments. I agree that we should show this number up front if the store owner chooses and hope to see this in a future edition.
You can also chose at which point to decrement the inventory , e.g when payment is complete or when it's added to the cart as a will call so that the chances of two people going for the same item at once is again reduced.

Thanks for the quick reply. Any idea when the new version of QSC with this feature might be released? I know the client will most likely ask (dang those pesky clients)

Dion,
Traditionally, and I'm going to carry on in that tradition, we don't assign public dates with a given featureset to releases. Unless something is imminent, e.g tested and verified but just waiting to go out the door, then I adhere to that. Pesky? I like my clients

I too hope you can fix the Authorize.net automatic capture. It's a pain to have to do it manually. Thanks Fern

Is there any way to keep us posted on what is on your development roadmap, both short and long term? There are some features many people have asked for and I'm wondering how long it will take. Here are my suggestions:
1) Text box fields for the product pages, in addition to the drop-down option boxes. This is a major one for me - it helps all of us who need customization at the product level (the special notes box at checkout just doesn't cut it), such as engraving text.
2) International shipping. Also more shipping options (be able to add insurance, upgrade to faster shipping, etc).
3) Apply option and/or sale-based changes across the store. If I want to do a one-day sale, I either have to update every product, or apply a coupon code. Or, if a certain option is always $2 more, I'd like to apply that across the board. Maybe pre-set option sets.
4) Quantity discounts (i.e. 10% when you order 10), and minimum quantities (i.e. must order 10) functionality.
5) Purchase additional pages to be built within the store. I hate having to have two different sites (QSC and WST), especially having to format it to match. My WST template is unavailable in QSC, so while I'm thankful for advanced CSS, I'd love to have everything in one place.
6) Easily add multiple photos for each product, and/or easily embed photos into the site. Again, I need a separate site to support this functionality.
7) Be able to edit option choices that are already created. If I want to change the name of something, I have to delete the old, add the new, and then edit every single product page that has that option. I'd also like to re-order option sets once created.
That's all for now but I'm just curious as to how far off these ideas may be. Thanks for all your great work - I'm happy that advanced CSS is available!

Greetings Rachel,
I wish there was a better way in which I could provide this information but in most cases the information given in the past would have turned out to create as many problems as it may help. I've tried to say when items are imminent or very likely to appear in the near future as well as suggesting when items were unlikely, unsuited or not planned for the current program ( It's rare for us to totally dismiss anything legal)
1) A common request that we have planned
2) Expansion on all of those are planned
3 and 4 ) Requested for the update of the sales/ coupons feature
5) This one is tricky but we're very aware of the need to have the same templates in both items and while we've started out on this there's certainly farther to go.
6) In our near term plan
7) The options, inventory on options and more attention to mass editing is planned.
Other than tell you that we are including these in a succession of QSC releases I don't have a public timeline for these items.

Hi,
I have been using the advanced css feature for my shopping cart. It was working great. Then suddenly, it stopped working. The shopping cart is back to its original template. I don't know why it would have stopped reading the css. When I preview my site, it looks the way i want it to look. But when I publish it, it looks like the template. I don't know why it is doing this.
Please help.

How do you or can you add flash to your quick shopping cart?
Reply to this
Good news! We recently added the ability to add flash and pdf files to your Quick Shopping Cart storefront. You can do this by going to the Media Gallery page under the Storefront menu tab. Once you're there, click the Upload Images button and select the flash/pdf files you want to upload. After the files are uploaded, click the Use as link checkbox and click the Save button at the bottom of the page. The flash file will be accessible via the Storefront URL displayed on the Media Gallery page. You will need to publish for the files to be accessible.
More information on using flash and pdf files on your storefront can be found in the help article Using the Media Gallery, which is accessible via the Help icon on the Media Gallery page. Details can also be found in the help article Linking to and Embeding PDFs, Flash Files, and/or Images in Quick Shopping Cart, which is linked to in the Using Media Gallery article.

How do I get the company name field included in the check out address dialog box?
Reply to this
You can enable the Company Name field for checkout Billing and Shipping Addresses by navigating to the Shopping Cart / Checkout Preferences section on the Storefront > Preferences page. Check the "Show Company Name" checkbox to enable the field. Further, check either "Required for Billing Address" or "Required for Shipping Address", or both, to enable them for their respective address blocks in the storefront checkout.
Don't forget to save the page, as well as publish your changes, in order for the changes to be reflected in your live storefront.
