QSC owners now have a forum.

Just the other day someone on the blog asked:

“Why in the hell don't you have a forum for the QSC customers??? I have a new question everyday! I don't want to wait 2 days for a reply!”

I considered this question and after about 23 milliseconds came to the only correct answer: we do need a QSC forum. Therefore, I'd like to introduce QSC owners to their own section within Go Daddy Connections..

What this forum is.

The Quick Shopping Cart Forum is a place for QSC customers to gather and discuss the program, how they use it, challenges they've overcome, and any tips and tips they’ve picked up along the way. Running a small business requires that you take on various roles, many of which are full-time jobs in the paid world. At any given moment, you might be a graphic designer, copywriter, postal clerk, or customer service representative. Add to this list a bit of Web design, photography, and accounting, and you’ve got an average Monday. :) So, if you've solved a problem that someone else may benefit from reading about or have one that someone might be able to solve, we’d love to hear from you. The forum is lightly moderated and predominantly self-policing; the rest I leave to your good judgment.

What this forum is not.

The Quick Shopping Cart forum is not an official support venue. We have 24-7 phone and email support for all our applications. For any pressing or time-sensitive concerns, those avenues would be your best bet.

I'm starting out with a few basic topics, but we’ll open more focused areas as the need arises. Thank you very much for your feedback, and I hope you enjoy getting to know your fellow store owners.

John

How about adding the ability to insert meta tags like the Google verification tag you presently offer. MS Live Search also has a verification meta tag line they ask to be inserted. Another suggestion would be to add the ability to set percentage discounts or multiple price points that could be set in the client login information area. Example would be retail sales prices & dealer sales prices and using coupons which I have seen suggested is not an appropriate solution.

      Greetings,

Sorry for the delay in response.  I've tried to locate the verification with MS live and it was down on the day I tried but  I have made a request that we add that into the site promotion section for a future release.  With regards to the price points and percentage discounts   we do have such an item planned but you have already usurped my current workaround with coupons.  Thanks for taking the time to provide us with your feedback.

    Hi John,
As you might remember my site uses the snowboarder b template and it works for my application. I was wondering if it would be possible to ease the restrictions on the custom colors and fonts option to allow more choices. Currently the template does not allow for borders around the buttons or different shading of the page areas. I have received several critiques that point out that the page lacks definition. If I were able to change the main body background color and separate the product catagories and featured items areas from the main body that would be awesome.
Thanks in advance for your help.

      Greetings  Matt,

Well first the good news and the reaspm  I didn't respond sooner since this item was just released last week.  We've opened up the ability for custom CSS within the  Storefront removing many  restrictions we have now through the designer.   Yes I realize this is quite different from extending the options within the store builder but that kind of change is not so easy to redesign quickly. By giving  those access to create and save  many versions of the storefront  via the magic of CSS   we're on the way to making this easier in the future for everyone .  We'll be posting more on this shortly.

      Greetings Wayne,

Thanks for your recent feedback on the 2.3  upgrade. As you've noticed one of the changes to the program was to add an option to make all products taxable / untaxed.     For people that  had no tax set this resulted in us showing the  info for tax in the invoice.  There's no quick way to  change that field without exporting the spreadsheet and then updating the column for taxable status.  Other than the appearance of Tax 0.00  there should have been no ill effect from this change if you have noticed something to the contrary please let me know.

Is there a way, or will there be a way in the future to upload pictures to QSC not using products. The goal is to use the advanced CSS feature to upload a custom background image to match our main site page. The only way to do it now is to upload using url to our mean site, but that creates no secure items in our shopping cart. Please let me know if there is another way around this.

      Greetings,

Presently items either need to be within a product or  available as a download for sale. E.g  there's no separate area presently for images or supporting material that's not related to those two areas.  As such the question that you've brought up is interesting.  This behavior is browser specific and cannot be controlled by Quick Shopping Cart®. One possible solution to this situation is to ensure that the image URL is secure by verifying its URL begins with https instead of http. We do have an image upload area on our roadmap at present but I'll see if there's anything more we can do to make this new CSS theme  more usable,

Yes there is a workaround for this , the combination of using Custom Shipping with PayPal is a   enables you to ship to Canada. We're working on adding international shipping to a future version of QSC.

If it's a generic link then it could be placed in the invoice customization  section.   If you could send me the  shopping.com  tracking survey link   I'll take a look at this  and I'll see if I can get it to work for you.

      Greetings Sandra,

Thanks for the feedback regarding the survey. Other than  including this within the main site  or product area there's no  mechanism  presently for us to generate a coupon  other than you referencing  an existing one within the same survey.  E.g   Find a  Third party survey  that works well within the  header / footer or  a custom link you create,   user fills out survey, their thank you page has a coupon code. Obviously the code could then be used by people that just passed it along instead of using the survey but for the time being I can't think of another way to get anything remotely close. We'll certainly consider such features but presently we don't have anything of this nature planned.

Thanks for the feedback.   Presently there's no way to mix and match the category styles in this manner.  Though this is a degree of flexibility I'd like to see in a future  version of the Shopping Cart.

I'm new to QSC and just starting my webstore. However, the limitations seem pretty severe. I literally have thousands of items to enter/edit. Some much needed enhancements would be to add:

the ability to have a "shopping club" or "membership levels" and a blog

the ability to use multiple coupons (like free shipping - I'm really looking for an "in-store pickup" option, and a member's discount coupon, but have selection criteria like must be a club member along with what you already have)

the ability to have a shipping option for "in-store pickup". I'd really like to use UPS, USPS, FedEx, Custom, and In-Store Pickup options - with the ability to have APO/FPO options for more than just custom. You have a good basic start, but really need some thoughts for some of us that also have brick and mortar stores.

the ability to add/edit discounts in a spreadsheet with the product info (seems like just adding 3-4 more fields to the spread sheet would at least give the ability to enter the first level of discount pricing and the from/to dates) -- to edit each item individually is not only a ridiculously tedious endeavor as is, but about to make me cry (no kidding - this is bad) and look for another shopping cart solution.

how about applying pricing discounts by category too

Don't get me wrong... I think this is a good basic program, but the utility is so restrictive, it will drive off your more serious customers as you force them to look for basic needs like the ones above.

or... do you have a suggestion for a more feature rich shopping cart solution? - don't know if you sell another product, or partner with a higher-end solution, or what...

    Thanks for your consideration,
    JimR

      Greetings Jim,

Thanks for taking the time to highlight areas in which we could improve the shopping cart.  We have captured nearly all of these items on our existing roadmap  with regards to members, coupons  and a shipping model that  can accommodate those with real world storefronts.    I agree that the editing of 1000's of items within the current system needs addressed  and that too is up for  a revamp in a future version  via the interface and the spreadsheet. Basically you've  hit the major items we're working on for future releases.

While we don't have another managed shopping cart program we do have several choices of cart that can be installed within our  Hosting connections
site.  These require  a more hands on than QSC but can be modified to precisely suit your business model.

Thank you for you comment on displaying sub categories on the home page.   Presently , as you have noted, there's not a way to accommodate , or a workaround, within this current  version that would allow you to do so.   I'll certainly look into the feasibility of doing this within a future release.
