Mark my word, err… images.

After all, you have an image to protect. One of the great things about the WWW is that people get to see the results of your creativity, work, and skill. This is excellent if you make furniture, restore cars, or sell any tangible item or service online. But, it’s not so convenient when the item for sale is often directly reproducible with a screen capture, right click save, or a myriad of devious, though readily circumvented, techniques. I’d like to qualify this line from the help files linked to below.

NOTE: The securest and safest method of protecting valuable digital images is to refrain from sending them through the Internet or posting them online.”

That does make it rather hard to showcase your work doesn’t it? It’s almost worth putting Photoshop(r) back in the box, dusting off your developing reels, and breaking out the developer Roxanne. But wait! You don’t need to put on your red light as Photoshop and similar image editors can get us out of this, err…fix.

We’ve updated two articles that speak to this concern, within the help system for our Online Photo Filer program. The information is generally applicable for image content no matter where it ends up.

I just realized that the product descriptions don't carry on to the product category page. I think it would be beneficial to have the ability to introduce the category with the various subcategories below it. For example, when you open my site you are presented with a list of categories with thumbnails and a brief explanation of what the category is. If you click on a category it brings you to a new page displaying the individual items in that category. No lead in about the brand name or other info to entice the consumer to continue on. When we first set up the main categories we enter a blurb as a description, but this is very small in size. Can't a program change be made to copy that text to the top of the subcategory page?

      Greetings Matt,

Thanks for the insightful feedback on the reuse of the category  description through the sub categories under it.  I'm  going to discuss this with the designer/ devs and see if we can accommodate this within a future release.

I have recently been contacted by my Merchant Processor and informed that my website needs to be compliant with the new Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS).

They told me that the Payment Card Industry is comprised of Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, and Japan Credit Bureau. The PCI DSS are a set of security requirements intended to protect both cardholders and merchants by establishing specific processes and precautions for handling, processing, storing and transmitting credit card data.

They said that card associations require all merchants to become Payment Card Industry compliant to help defend against credit card fraud and data breaches. In order to meet PCI deadlines, my Merchant Processor is requiring that all their merchants be compliant with these standards no later than March 31, 2008.

They also said that non-compliant merchants are subject to penalties and fines in the event of a data compromise which would severely impacts my customers as well as my business. Even one occurrence can damage a company's reputation and its ability to effectively conduct business. Becoming PCI compliant further protects me from having to deal with repairing a damaged image or spending a lot of money later to fix a problem that can be avoided with a small investment now.

For details about the security program please visit:www.pcisecuritystandards.org

Can you tell me if the QSC is PCI complaint or not, and, if not, are you working on becoming in time to meet the March 31, 2008 deadline?

      Greetings Sandra,

We are indeed PCI compliant, it's also the # one bullet point on our landing page. Godaddy goes through an annual audit as a company for PCI compliance.  Quick Shopping cart has been in compliance since its inception so thankfully all we have to do until March is add new features. Thank you for your question and I hope that allays any concerns you may have had re our PCI obligations.

Since I can't post to "what happens to my uploaded images" I'll post my comment here.

Why can't you have just one Product Page style that supports at least a 300 pixel image??? Instead of 10 that don't!!! I think it's crazy that customers have to click through two images just to see a full size(400x400)picture of my product. Make one product page style that supports this so customers don't have to click the "click to enlarge" 400 pixel image!!! Make one Product page style that supports at least a 300 pixel image like the welcome page.

This would make my site and I'm sure others much better!

    Thanks

Thank you for taking the time to provide feed back on the product page style.  This looks to be a useful idea. We're going to consider doing so within a future version of the shopping cart.

        John,

I found a way to do exactly what I wanted my site to do and look like! I guess it does what I wanted! So no need to change or add anything, It already does it all! It just took many hours to figure it all out! What we really need is a forum!!! It would save everyone time and effort!!!

The template for the Shopping Cart is designed for companies selling products.
    I sell a service. I present seminars.
Would you consider designing a template for companies that sell information / service? I don't need a Mfg. # or Shipping Address. It's confusing to some people who think I'm sending out a correspondence course, and not a live classroom instruction.

      Steven,

Thanks for taking the time to provide us with feedback.    The good news is yes we are actually considering items such as these.  I was talking to one of our designers re the types of stores that could be handled better and  the ticket seller  / event planner  came up.  It's early days yet on this being included within the cart but  I just wanted to let you know that we recognize there's a separate set of needs for our sellers of services.

Can you please develop a product page style that supports at least a 300 pixel image? (as a previous person requested) When someone clicks on a product, the subsequent product page should display that item in a separate but larger profile. This would help tremendously as customers won't have to click thru 2 pages to see a larger photo.
My store centers around screen printed t-shirts and I have to crop the standard image so it can be read by customers.(and this is fine) However, when someone 1st clicks on an t-shirt, I would love to provide a subsequent full body shot of that t-shirt.

We are in the process of re-designing and introducing products as we speak.

    Thank you.

      Greetings,

Thank you for the feedback on ways in which we could improve your product pages.  We do have planned improvements for  larger images on the product page which will make it into a future release.    There's also the option of adding an inline gallery to the product description that highlights the   image / expands it when moused over which  requires a bit more manual intervention in creation.    I'll take a look at the options and make a post on this  with my findings.

Thanks for your feedback. We're working on enhancements to the product images presently, and will take your recommendation into consideration. For now, be aware that you can actually use custom HTML in your product descriptions and include image references within the product description that you can control the size of.
