Quick Shopping Cart ver 2.05 release

Quick Shopping cart 2.0.5

The latest build of Quick Shopping Cart 2.0.5 has made it out into the world today. Our focus this time was on polishing up the templates, further improvements to speed and stability and we've added conversion tracking for Traffic Facts users which can be located in Webmaster Tools > Conversion Tracking and then add in your Traffic Facts ID.

Template Fixes

All the bugs have been weeded out of the “Flower Power” as well as the pun-free improvements made to Vintage Paint, Orange Peel, Health and Fitness,Golfer's Dream, and Solid Neons so if you were having issues they should have “automagically” corrected themselves . The same goes for the product options that weren't updating in accordance with the page color.

Inventory choice ( what we didn't get to )

Of late there were many requests to change the manner in which the inventory items are decremented in your cart. E.g After payment is made or when the order is made. Both are equally valid and rather than revert the selection to the pre 2.0 ( upsetting all those that thanked us for it) it's going to be included as a choice in a future version .

Thanks you all for your feedback and we hope you'll keep it coming.

    I am using template "Jet Black" which I have modified with my own colors. In the header a black square is left there from the template. It doesn't change to my background color, it just stays there as a black square. When I right-click on it and do "save background as" it's file name shows up as "header_boxes_1". I didn't put it there.

    You can see it on my page at
    http://shop.florineeditions.com/main.sc It's the black square between my yellow girl logo pic and my title. Does anybody have a suggestion on how to clear this out? This site is going to an art show in Las Vegas next week and I need it cleaned up.

    If this is a known bug and it's not possible to fix it right away, I'd like to know that, too, so I can start doing over another template.
    Thanks

      Greetings,

      I'm afraid there is no way that we could think of that you remove that image , we then looked at ways in which we could easily remove it and came to the similar conclusion  that in the short term a template change is likely to be your best chance of success. I believe the template NEON may be the best bet for recreating your existing site.  However for us to have templates that you can change 95% of yet leave an image that really only works with a black background is an issue that I'll call an omission rather than a bug but one that we'll treat with the same level of seriousness. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

    Neon template is working out worse. The main background is not changing although I put a change color in, the header background color is not an option, not much of anything is working there. Any more suggestion? I'm not being sarcastic in the least -- don't think that. I need to get the job done. Thanks

      Hi! I'm not sure if this will help you but the following code can change the background color and font color in the header:

      ...place your content here...

      The number of breaks will set the height of the header or you can probably use a height command in the div style statement. This example uses a black background with white test font.

      Before experimenting with code you should copy all the code in your existing header into notepad. Then if you need to reinstate the original code you have it available.

      Hope this helps.

    I checked the preview in IE 7 & Firefox 2.0.0.6 on one machine and IE 6 & Firefox 2.0.0.7 on another machine.

    All browsers do not show a page boundary, there is a boundary around the categories & welcome text, but not the page itself. That is what I am referring too, it is all open and not enclosed by a border.

    I have one on my current site, pre 2.0 release.

    When will this be fixed?

      I'm afraid that there's currently no way to remove individual customers from the sales tax if it's enabled.   A work around would be to issue a coupon to people  that are the same percentage off as their tax rate which isn't ideal. We're planning to address  tax exempt shoppers within a future release of the cart.

    I was making a purchase on my own website to see the exact procedure. During checkout it kept on prompting "This page has secure and non-secure items - do you want to display the non-secure items also". All the images are securely uploaded in the QSC console. The images and content were the same irrespective to the choice I made (do not display nonsecure or display all). I reduced my internet security preferences but still prompted the same way.

    Can you tell me what am I doing wrong over here. I do not want to scare away customers with this prompt, especially since it is being advertised as a secure website.

    My next question is regarding Affiliates. I am planning to become an advertiser with an Affiliate Marketing Program. One of the requisites for tracking actual affiliate sales is adding a code in the checkout complete/order confirmation page. Will I be able to add an affiliate code in the checkout confirmation page. I believe it can be edited in the Invoice Customisation Section. However, not exactly sure.

      Greetings,

      Presently the coupon to do that,intelligently,  is not available and other than a guestimate of the tax being an average of  7.5%  as a coupon it's something I wouldn't mind seeing us doing in a future release.  The secondary issue is a little trickier and it comes down to a number of factors.  One is that the merchant accounts can't process a  zero charge and  other than on the "will call" section there's no practical way to do such.

      So other than creating an item that  say  left $.01 in the cart  the cost of the item  with shipping I'm afraid nothing comes to mind.  I'll go play with this scenario and see if there's a better way to accommodate this.

    Not sure if this is the right place for enhancement requests. It would nice to be able to have the "Category" and "Product" pages have unique page titles and Meta Tags. At a minimum you should pull in the product title as the Page Title and the product description as the Meta Description. The one of the most important factors in ranking your site is the Page Title.

      Hi Matt

      QSC does not really support gift certificates at this point.  There is probably some complicated workaround using coupons that you could set up, but it would not be a very clean implementation and off-hand I don't recall any sites that do anything like that.  It is on our long term radar to do something in that area.

      Maybe if someone out there does something with gift-certificate-like coupons they could share what they did.

There are thousands of websites that offer gift certificates online. The issue I see is how does the customer apply the gift certificate credit to their purchase? If you need to see specific examples of sites with gift cards let me know.
        The speed of the timeline will determine whether I continue to use QSC as my storefront.

          You are correct that there's many items on the roadmap we have, giftcards being one of them and while it's far from ideal that we currently don't handle them we have been making good progress into setting up the framework for these to be in a future release.  I currently do not have a implementation date for this feature though I can  say  it's unlikely to be in the near future.

          For the meantime I can  suggest a manual process where people purchase a "giftcard" through the site and then you set up a one time use coupon  for redeeming it. I  would make the codes non sequential and hard to guess in this case and can suggest methods of doing so  if you would like to try this route. Obviously if you have a high turnover in gift cards this could be unwieldly  but for occasional / light use  it provides the customer with the same experience

The label at the top of this document needs to say "Invoice#" if it is not yet paid, a couple customers companies wouldn't pay the bill on an "Order" it has to say "Invoice" they told me that this would not pass an audit.

      To add in your address to the invoice  follow these  steps.  Goto storefront  and select "invoice customization"
       Click within the header  at the end of QSC company name and  select "company address" from the dropdown, click add,  then preview. If it works press save and you can republish these changes.

      You can also use this same section to add the word invoice . An example follows for one to be displayed at the op center.   <center><h3>invoice</h3></center>  place this just below the  line  for invoice header content

    I have a suggestion for the QSC payment types. Currently, I do not use any merchant accounts with my QSC. I only use PayPal. Some customers don't realize that if they select PayPal, and do not have a PayPal account, they can still pay via credit card without signing up for PayPal. They can simply checkout and when they get redirected to the PayPal sign on page there is an option there to pay without an account. Unfortunately my customers that don't know this will always select "print & call" and then call me to give me their credit card info over the phone. I can't do this so I tell them to log back on and place a new order using the PayPal payment type and follow my instructions above. Then I just log on and cancel the first invoice. My customers have been very understanding, but I'd still like to cut out this gray area.

    In order to help with this issue, I have a few suggestions:

    1] Add another payment type called "print and mail money order". I enabled the "print & call" payment type only because I have some customers who prefer to mail in money orders. So I tell them to use this option. But it's not very accurate in its wording. If there was a "print & mail money order" payment type, I'd turn off the "print & call" payment type and it would save me time and a phone call for my customers.

    2] Perhaps allow us to be able to edit the text of the Payment type field.

    3] Perhaps add a message box or popup that will alert the customer that they can use a credit card using the PayPal site without signing up for PayPal. I haven't really looked at the checkout screen closely enough to know if something like this can be done? Maybe you can add an option in the QSC console under the PayPal payment type to add an additional payment type called "Credit Card". If the customer then selects this option it'll just take them to the same page as if they had selected "PayPal", but it would eliminate the customers who try to call me with their credit card info...just a few thoughts.

    Once again, keep up the good work.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Tony P.

      Hi Tony

      Thanks for the observations and suggestions.  We have it on our roadmap to increase flexibility in the payment options to help reduce confusion over things like what Print & Call really means.

      As for Paypal.... yes, it seems to be an issue that people just don't know what Paypal does.  One of the things we did with 2.0 was revamp the final page in the checkout to give more details to the shopper about their ability to use Paypal even without an account, and to be able to use a credit card on Paypal.    We are considering moving to PayPal Express some time in the future to try and help alleviate these issues.

      Did you know that you can edit the text box beneath the Paypal payment option that appears in the checkout process?  You can do that from in the Admin console under Payments where you set up your Paypal option.  You could put some words in there about accepting credit cards.  That may help.

      Thanks for the contribution.

      Greetings,

      Firstly  good timing, nearly,  we have indeed received several suggestions to add in custom pages outwith the normal shopping cart view and this is an upcoming feature.

      Secondly  I've  just finished a blog post about the  special instructions setting which should be out in the next day. Here's the relevant part pertaining to your comment.
      While the name may not be very descriptive, or even useful, for your store it can be changed E.G If your store provides goods only to the local market, you could change this to “Delivery instructions” which let's the buyer know what information is expected of them.

      How to setup this feature.

      You can enable and change the description of the special instruction boxes by going to Storefront > preferences and then scroll to the bottom of the page. Amend as needed.

      While that may not be as advanced as the option you are hoping for ,  "input data" covers such a wide set of circumstances,  the ability to remove, or rename , the section should at least cut down on the confusion.

        And, I'm still not sold on the special instructions way of getting user data. I was thinking more about a text box on certain product pages for them to add data. For example we offer custom embroidered blankets with our baby baskets, and we need a place for them to put their baby's name in.

Or I have the option of one type of "flat rate shipping" cost only. Is there a way to make shipping rates "flat rate" but at multiple levels for USPS?

    Ok, I've got a really EASY fix for you guys that I've been trying to get taken care of...I've called and emailed submitting trouble tickets several times and I either got no response or a response that tells me nothing (other than exactly what I told them). So here it is...

    YOU HAVE A CSS CODE ERROR!!! Your code for class “largeimage”, sets the picture size to a max width of 160px, thus shrinking and distorting it from it’s original size--which you explicitly state to be 175x175px everywhere else, including here in the Developers Blog (Article name "What happens to my uploaded images?"). The browser is forced to do the scaling/resizing and that results in the degraded image quality. Because of that, all of the images in categories and product-lists are distorted and jagged, showing obvious pixilation as the browser has to re-size them; I was informed that your company uses IE6 as a standard browser; for some reason IE6 does a better job scaling the images than IE7 or Firefox…if you view it with one of these (extremely common) browsers, the evidence of poor scaling is clearly evident as is the fault in the code. This leads me to believe that the 160px max-width for that image class (“largeimage”) is a mis-type…logically, there is no other reason for this incontinuity in code. Fitment, spacing, etc. should not be an issue where these images appear (not for 15px). I specifically re-sized and uploaded our pictures so that they would look CORRECT at 175x175px (the resize built into QSC destroys the integrity of the pic). How about changing that class to 175px wide for me and the rest of your QSC users? It should have minimal (if any) effect on existing margins, spacing, etc. I’ll even give you the code to enter!

    Note the class "largeimage" in the css style sheet "category_3"

    Go to the first, two sections of that sheet, "Category Style 3..." & "Products". Now change the existing code to the following which will correct the max-width (which is currently 160px):

    .content-category.largeimage img {
    max-width: 175px;
    border: none;
    }

    .content-product.largeimage img {
    float: left;
    max-width: 175px;
    border: none;
    }

    And PLEASE don’t tell me, to go back and change all my pics to 160x160… we both know that’s unreasonable and ALL of your users would benefit from this change.

    Note also that instead of using class “largeimage” on the product page, you use class “imageanddetails” which is actually set to 180px…so if you are saying 160px is correct, then you ought to change your image resizer, the data in the developer’s blog, and the constraints for other product images…

    PLEASE FIX THIS!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks,

    Sean

    Probably many,like us, repeat the item number under "Title" in the database since it is short and displays in the content box header. But this leaves customers wondering what they've ordered when viewing their shopping cart.

        While I'm not familiar with the exact "racer" template you speak of, using another template, I too did not like how things were displayed...so I just created an image in photoshop that overlays the actual header...add your logo, and whatever info you want in it and then just add it alone, into the header content box. Problem solved.

        Matching a gradient in the header properly, to an inset image is doable, although irritatingly difficult if your graphic does not cover the majority of the header...due to the code dictating exact image placement/spacing (there WILL be padding (margin) surrounding the entire input field , so you have to align things perfectly...I managed it in the header on my site (www.shop.topshelfperformance.com) but it took a couple tries before I got it right.

        Anyway, I thought that might help.

    I have discussed this problem before but was basically told that it's just semantics. I am using POS and when a customer places their order the payment status on their confirmation invoice shows as "incomplete". While you and I know that this is due to the fact that their credit card has not yet been processed the customer sees the incomplete payment status and believes that they have made an error with entering their credit card information. Numerous times they will place the order a second time only to get the same result. Many times they call us to ask why their order is showing as incomplete. This is rather unprofessional.

    The payment status should either be eliminated from the invoice as it was prior to the upgrade or it should show as "PENDING" which is a term more appropriate for the payment status and one the customer can understand.

    I hate to repeat myself on this issue but it is a real problem and one that seems to not being given serious consideration for amendment. This is not a case of semantics.

    If you can't do this, is there any capability of exporting open order information to text files (header & lines?) I would then import that data into our ERP system.

    If you can't do either of these, does the quickbooks integration download all lines and customer info that I might be able to export to text files?

    As I said, I really like the ease of use, but I can't ask our Customer Service Department to manage both our ERP and the on-line shop.

      The Quickbooks integration would not be a solution for you as its a simple push of a generic name "quick shopping cart product" and a price.

      We do not allow ODBC connections as our data is inside a PCI (Payment Card Industry) environment that is locked down and secure (and gets audited to make sure it stays that way).  However, we are looking at a project to improve the import/export functionality of QSC and we are gathering business requirements for this.  So, if you have some specifics of what you would like to an export order function to be able to accomplish, please let us know.

      Hi Steve

      As you have observed, we do not have a tiered pricing structure in place yet and its not on the horizon to be done any time soon.  What you may consider as an alternative is using the Options capability.  Options allow you to adjust a product price, so for example, you could have Product X = $10; and then options and set the prices, e.g. create options "21 of X" = $195; "50 of X" = $400; "100 of X" = $800.  The only caveat on this is that options do not work with inventory management.  So, buying an option of "50 of X" would not decrement 50 off the inventory.

        Thanks Rob. Your suggestion is valid. As a matter of fact, I had already started implementation of your suggestion. For example, I entered my base price (1 to 20 units) = $226.67. I have four options (Levels) for the customer to choose, e.g. "Level I, 1 -20 units, Level II, 21 - 50 units", et cetera. If the customer selects Level II they receive a deduction to the base price of $13.60 per unit. Any quantity entered will then reflect a per unit price of $213.07 per unit. This approach works but it would be better if the process was transparent and didn't involve a customer action. Thanks again.

      What you're looking to do with this customer should be easily accomplished, but for reference, I would like to clarify exactly what type of setup you wanted for these products, so let me cover some options that you have at your disposal.

      Options:  'Options' are exactly what they sound like.  Want it in red or would you like it in blue?  Either one is fine and one must be specified for the customer to continue on to adding the product to the cart.  You can include up to 100 different choices per 'Option' set that will appear in a drop down when the customer is going through the purchase path.  These 'Options' can also be stored and applied to other products so that if every product comes in 4 colors, and there's 20 products, you don't have to add them 80 times, just once per product.

      Quantity:  This is built into the purchase path for all products by default, so that if I want 20 of that same product, all I have to do is type in '20' and update on my way to check out.  That product and all of the option choices I have selected for it are now in the cart with a quantity of 20, properly calculated for the correct price and waiting to be purchased.

        Thanks for your reply and for allowing us the benefit of knowing that the change is coming. I am hopeful this will be sooner rather than later and would appreciate information on when this "upcoming release" is scheduled. This is a huge issue for our shoppers.

        With regard to SciFi jewelry.... we can add jewelry from just about any show on TV. We are working on adding NCIS this week!

        Kindest regards
