Linking To Your Main Site With the Shopping Cart's "Home" Button

Many customers have inquired how to link back to their main site from the cart – more specifically, how to make the "Home" button on the cart return to the main site, thus providing their customers with a seamless shopping experience. With the release of 2.0, this is now extremely easy to implement. Here’s a step-by-step implementation that shows how to link back to my Website Tonight® main site from my Quick Shopping Cart® storefront:

1. Open the "Menu Customization" screen from your Admin. Select Storefront>>Menu Customization.

2. Change the label name of your current "Home" page. In my example, I renamed it "Main Store".

3. Add a new menu item, name it, define the URL (your destination page), and select how it will appear (e.g. new window pop-up, existing screen, etc). In my example below, I set the URL to the home page of my main test site and the Target to "New Window" because I don’t necessarily want them to go away from my shopping cart altogether.

It’s that easy! Now you can see my shopping cart built with Quick Shopping Cart®. The "Home" button link now takes my customers back to my main website (seen in the next picture). The former QSC "Home" page is now labeled "Main Store":

Excellent article. This is the kind of information that helps a developer improve their web site. I also liked the example in this article you used of the guitar web site. This was a great example of how I can design my informational web site and create a seamless connection between it, and my shopping cart.
If you will continue to provide instruction to your customers like this, they will be successful and in turn, you will be too.
    Keep up the good work!

Is there any plans in the future to integrate Fed Ex shipping into QSC? This would be a very valuable addition!

      Hi Daniel

Yes, Fed-Ex is in our plans as we have had people ask for it, just not in our immediate plans. For example, people want international shipping, so we are looking at providing international shipping with our existing carriers before we add new carriers.

Thanks for posting your vote for Fed-Ex.

      Regards,
      Rob

Thank you, I have been trying to figure this out for days and days. Nearly gave up. My site is not completed/not published yet- so is it correct to say I will not know if it works until it is published? As it stands, I am just it will work. Thanks again, Megan

      Greetings Steve,

Help is on the way.. Firstly the shipping and handling charge. If you log into QSC, go into Processing > shipping and then click on EDIT next to custom you will see there's a handling fee set of $3 which you can modify accordingly.

Secondly. To remove fax from your storefront. Go into Storefront > Customize header and then delete the line
(fax) %QSC-SITE-FAX%
  , save and republish.

Is there a way to have the continue shopping cart button redirect back to your personal product page that you've create instead of it going to the canned product page provided by the shopping cart? Also, when clicking on the register button after registering, how do I make it redirect back to my index page or another page that I created instead of the default? Thanks!

      Greetings,

Presently we don't have that functionality within QSC though it's certainly an option I can see being useful. I'll investigate us including such an option in a future release.

        Dear QSC team,
I also would love for you to figure out a way to make the continue shopping button go back to my main web site. I just feel that the quick shopping cart products pages are very cold and dull. Not to mention all the time and effort I put in to making my main web site. Please come up with an answers to this sooner than later!
        Thanks

          Greetings Nicole,

Thank you for your feedback. We are looking at closer integration with our web site designer which can take the form of more customization to your templates allowing you to style QSC closely to whichever sitebuilder you use. It's certainly a planned feature we are going to undertake but I'm afraid I don't have a timeline presently for enacting this.

if having more people ask for the same thing gets the development team to move it up the enhancement list, please add my plea for the "continue shopping" to allow users to move easily back and forth from main sites to the qsc. I agree with Nicole that the catalog pages are not the optimum display of products. Thanks.

              Sheila,

Thanks for your feedback. The continue shopping flow is something we are actively looking at. With the catalog pages I have to ask you what's the optimum for your store , the item on the catalog page that annoys you most as well as the item you like the most.

      Greetings Terri,

Presently there is no product specific personalization but all is not lost. There is a special instructions section at check out time. The special instructions text box is available on the Billing/Shipping Information page for your customers. You can amend this section in the storefront tab > preferences within the admin under Shopping Cart / Checkout Preferences . We are already looking at making this a product specific field in a future version of QSC.

I'm afraid I don't have a public time line for the inclusion of the feature. Please let me know how it works out meantime from your customers perspective I've heard from a few people that this works well but am interested in any further insight you have into this.
