Providing Multiple Product Images Using Online Photo Filer (R)

Currently, QSC only supports 1 thumbnail, 1 standard, and 1 zoom image per product. Many people wish to have more images in QSC for either different product options such as color, or perhaps different views such as front, side, back, etc. One way to provide additional product images is to host them in an alternative location, such as Online Photo Filer (R), and provide links to the images in your product description.

In Online Photo Filer (R), you can upload and store photos and sort them according to any method you see fit. If you want to provide links from your QSC site to images in Online Photo Filer (R), you have a couple of options.

To link to a group of thumbnails for presenting a gallery of images pertaining to one product:
In Online Photo Filer (R), you can navigate to the gallery that you wish to link to.
Once on that page, you will see a link that says: "Permanent link to this page".
Copy that link and then enter your QSC account and navigate to the product that you want to add the gallery link to.
In the description field, enter an anchor tag like this:  (replace XXX with the copied URL)

<a href="XXX" target="_blank">More Pictures</a>

Save your changes when you are finished. Remember, you must publish your storefront for the changes to appear on your site.

To add specific links to alternate product views:
Open the product in the QSC product editor.
In another window, navigate to the particular image in Online Photo Filer (R) that you want to link to.
Once on that page, you will see a link that says: "Permanent link to this photo".
Copy that link and enter an anchor tag in your QSC product description like this: (replace XXX with the copied URL)

<a href="XXX" target="_blank">Front View</a>

Repeat as desired. For example you could have four image links:
<a href="XXX" target="_blank">Front View</a>
<a href="XXX" target="_blank">Top View</a>
<a href="XXX" target="_blank">Side View</a>
<a href="XXX" target="_blank">Back View</a>

Or color samples:

<a href="XXX" target="_blank">Product In White</a>
<a href="XXX" target="_blank">Product In Red</a>
<a href="XXX" target="_blank">Product In Black</a>

Save your changes when you are finished. Remember, you must publish your storefront for the changes to appear on your site.

Thanks for adding to the "help info" database with these notes. Can we get a limited bandwidth included account of some sort of "Photo manager" with QSC that we can upload pics to and link from? My reasoning is 1) To simplify the addition of other pics without having to leave go daddy and 2) to avoid message to user about "Unsecured as well as secured data is present, etc." when you import other links. This scares customers. I'm new to this blog, and haven't read it all, but I am really upset that I can't customize Title, Description, and keyword Meta tags for each page/product/category. This is a high priority item for me. I would also like to be able to add alt txt for the single upload image allowed per product and add a robots.txt file. THANKS, Aaron

      Hi Aaron

QSC does not have its own Photo Manager, which is why we posted the article on how to link to another GoDaddy application, the Online Photo Filer, to achieve the desired result of being able to display more than one image for a product.  The article describes using an anchor to get to the image, not embedding content from another site so you should not see those messages.  If you continue to have issues, please reach out to our Customer Support channel (support@godaddy.com) (and don't forget to include screen shots!).

Allowing customization of meta tags at the product level or allowing txt files to customize site search/crawling behavior is not a scalable solution for the product that could support our customers that have hundreds or thousands of products and not good for our hardware infrastructure.  If I am missing the point and you are referring to something else, please let me know.

      Thanks for your contribution.

        Hi June

There are various fields in the QSC admin which allow html text (Welcome message, About Us, Product descriptions etc) and where ever you have an html field (noted in the QSC  admin by a "/HTML" box) you can insert html code like links to other pages, to images etc.

There are various resources on the web to learn more about inserting html tags, which can be found from a search engine search.  Good luck!

I always recommend to keep all forms of payment acceptance open for the convenience of customers. I would like to hear from other sellers out there if they agree or disagree. All help is appreciated.

I think you are getting that message because the QSC is under a SSL and it is retrieving the image from a non-SSL site.  Its automatically generated by the browser and not something that can be controlled within QSC.

    Dear Rob,

Thank you for your response. Adding international shipping would be amazing, considering Canada is an excellent neighbour for business.

    I have some other questions.

    - Firstly, can I download the froogle *.xml output file to submit to other data feed sites such as shopzilla.

    - Secondly, while I was on the Google Base page, I noticed certain discrepancies in the QSC uploaded file. Primarily the description of the item was taken from the short description and not the long one, which has more relevant keywords. Also it did not register several other optional but important aspects of Payment, Shipping, Product Location, etc.

I have an ebay store and use the Google Base Store Connector to publish my items. The difference in the impressions and click through as compared to QSC Data Feed are quite different.

Thank you in advance for your reply,

      Hi Ravi

Regarding the xml file, there is no ability to download it.  It is a behind the scenes process that captures product data and sends it to Google.  As for what you are seeing on the Google site, that is strange that you see a discrepancy as the new feed is still sending the same data fields as before.

We have had a couple of other people ask for the long description instead of the short one so we are going to look into what we can do to get that on our roadmap.

      Thanks for your contribution.

I applied an SSL certificate to my QSC per go daddy recommendations. However from my further readings, Yahoo as well as several other sites don't index https pages (some will index the main page only). I may not understand this correctly, but it seems like a major hindrance (limiting my product page indexing) as well as an added server load (encrypting every page) when the only page that needs encrypting is the actual checkout. Would you comment on this and offer any recommendations? Thank you for your consideration.

We have done some research that supports your observations regarding sites not indexing https pages.  We have gone back and forth with the idea of just encrypting the checkout phase of the QSC and this issue provides further argument for it.

We will add this to the roadmap and it will be a discussion point with our other internal management processes as to how or if we can accomplish this.

      Hi Peter

There are some environment considerations for page loading that may be a factor.  Apart from internet speed, pc, servers, etc, one consideration for QSC performance is how many products are present on the page that is trying to load.  We have seen with some customers that have many products in a category it can take a few extra seconds for the page to refresh.

Is this the problem you are experiencing?  Do you consistently experience it? If there is anything more specific to your site, please feel free to contact our support team.

When I found this blog about trying to mod the image viewer for a particular product I had to voice my opinion on it and point out that this only mask's the real problem's and software bugs concerning the Product Attributes & the Inventory system. Let me explain... First I have been apart of the QSC family for about a year now, and havent really found any problems I couldnt get around, except this one that is. Ok here we go, I have 20 products for sale, they are the same product only different by color and each one comes in 2 weight sizes, so I have a total of 40 individual products registered in inventory. 20 x 2 sizes = 40 pcs. Now, the problem is that my shopping cart's "Products" section shows all 40 items listed in a really long row down the page. When my potential customer goes to look at my products. It gets confusing for them and makes the page take forever to load. THE FIX: I want to be able to (like most other shopping carts) have the customer go to one product of there choosing and select from the products many attributes size,weight,color,ect.. using a combo box, and have the shopping cart pickup the configuration the customer has chosen like lets say in my customers case a Red - 3/8oz. fishing lure, and have the computer debit 1 Red lure that is of the weight 3/8oz. from inventory. This would be awesome for us and it's standard to the industry. A person selling a Black shirt in 6 different sizes shouldnt have to make six different product pages outside of inventory and neither should I for that. GODADDYS RESPONSE IN THE PAST WAS: just combine your Red fishing lures at 5/8oz. and 3/8oz. and total them up and sell them. MY PROBLEM WITH THAT: is that if I had 40 total combined and a customer wanted 30 5/8oz. and I only had 20 of them ( the rest being 3/8 oz.) I and my customer would have a serious problem. I like most sellers dont allow BACKORDER for some reason or another. So thats my problem right now and has been for some time. I hope you guys have a way of doing this and/or are making it an inclusion soon in the next update. Thanks

      Dear Sir

Thank you for the comments and observations.   You are correct that there are currently limitations with not being able to inventory at the option level of the product and that impacts merchants that don't allow backorders.

It is on our roadmap to improve this area, but it is behind other features like international shipping at this point.  We continually monitor our customer feedback to ensure that we are developing the right features based on priority and I appreciate you taking the time to provide the feedback.

Also is it possible to limit the number of products to be displayed on one page to 10/20 etc. I have several items on one category and the page tends to be toooo long to load with 30 thumbnails.

      Hi Ravi

At this point you are limited to editing products on a one by one basis (something that, yes, is on our roadmap to improve).  To your second point, we are looking at introducing pagination when we start refactoring the admin interface as a method of improving page load times in the admin.  From the storefront perspective, we find that merchants generally use the ability to have sub categories underneath a category as a way of breaking up long lists of products.

Do you  think there would be value in having pagination in the storefront side as well?

        Dear Rob,

Thanks for the reply. I strongly agree that pagination for the store front is important. Unwanted subcategories make it longer for the customer to reach to the end product. Additionally, there can be only so many categories and sub-categories. More than anything, the entire page takes too long to load when there are 38 products on one page (a lot of people still use dialup). As a buyer myself, I would prefer 10 to 20 products on a page, that I can easily sort through, rather than 30 items, which takes longer and an unpleasant buying expeience. It's the basic rule of selling, too many choices lead to a confused customer with no sales.

        Hope this helps.

Ok, I am a web developer who has had a cart that has worked great for years. So why am I looking to change, Quick Books integration. I’m trying to make my accounting life better. I would imagine there are a lot of quick books people looking into this option as Quick Books only recommends 5 other carts that integrate with them.

I have to say that this cart is less then I expected. But I am still fiddling with it because of the Quick Books thing. Without ripping on anyone or voicing my frustrations, there are a few things that I think are serious issues for a cart not to have in 2007. An auto responder after an order has been placed. Also, an html thank you page once an order has been placed. Now it does automatically send the invoice. But I need to get a message to my customers upon ordering, so an auto responder is a must for me. That should not be difficult to add along with the thank you page redirection that takes them back to the main site.

Here are a few things that I think are a must for this specific cart. I’m sure there are people using this cart as a stand alone site. There are also people using it more for an add on to their existing site just for the purchase end of it. I am in the later group. Most of the people that are in the same boat as me probably have a link of some kind on their main site to purchase an item. I have it setup so when the link is clicked it takes them to the cart with only that item displayed. Which brings me to the other things I would like to see added, I would like to have an option to turn off the navigation bar at the top. In place of the menu bar I would like to have a link that says click here to go back to http://mydomain.com. Again, I am just using the cart so someone can choose a product on my main site and pay for it through the cart. When they see home on the cart and click it, and then they see contact us, they soon are wondering where they ended up. They also have no way of getting back to the main site. Now I could have the cart open in a new window, but I am trying to make this dummy proof. So, all I want them to see is the one product that they clicked on the main site, with no other navigation. Then they only have two things to do, buy it or go back to the main site, which is where I would want them, not on the cookie cutter shopping cart (no offense). Lastly, this is more of a wish list item and I realize it is a stretch. I would love to see a customizable form that can be created specifically for the quick books integration, Information that would be exported into quickbooks along with the order.

I have not gone live with this cart because I am evaluating it. Hopefully these simple things can be added ASAP. Please don’t say that these are things we are looking to add in the future as the future is way to far off for me. Anyway, those are my suggestions. Believe me, you really have something with QB.

I too have had many frustrations with QSC and its distinct lack of features, especially when coming from a company as large as GoDaddy. I could start a list that would go on forever, but I'll limit it to the generalization that it and other godaddy products are too "dumbed down", leaving a user without the ability to fully customize his/her site or keep up with industry standards. It appears that it is supposed to be an "easy" way to start selling online, but the problem is that it falls between the level of "anyone can do it", and "you need some IT background to attempt this"...I can tell you that without a background in IT and previous html code experience, I wouldn't have taken the time to learn/re-learn html/CSS code--why not just add a built-in editor if you truly want it to be that simple?!? Caught in the middle, it keeps those without experience away and those of us with experience, banging our heads, trying to find workarounds because we are without the ability to fully customize our sites...it's most frustrating when you see the options and they are greyed out!!!

What further complicates things are the constraints placed on the site's pages, text, and pics based not only upon which category and product pages you select, but the pre-determined css code for that page (i.e. classes). Images don't respond to html alignment commands when mixed with text on some pages which leaves a very amateur look. The "zoom" or "interactive photo viewer is a joke, the viewer allows you to zoom which is nice, but it's standard size at about 400x400px is WAY too small, especially when trying to view a 1360 or 1024 img...you end up with a compressed/blurred looking pic and once you zoom in, you can't see what's around it. And let us not forget that there is not multiple img's allowed. Help us out here!

Due to my present quandary with displaying prduct imgs, I purchased the Online Photo Filer...a product I QUICKLY learned, needs A LOT of help--talk about over-simplified! It's just not intuitively layed out (to edit a gallery you have to find a link in 6pt font) and lacks logical ability to organize photos within galleries. A major issue I have (well 2 actually) is ZERO ability for subfolders(subgalleries) and a limit on the number of total galleries allowed. But above all, the Badge feature, which drew me to the product in the first place, ONLY links back to the entire OPF gallery!?!?!?! I don't want my customer getting side-tracked and just sorting through all of the pics for the website instead of browsing the catalog to see them! It does not allow you to have it link back to the picture(s) only...the only way around it is not to use the badges at all and just embed or link the pic(s) you want. Seriously guys, why would I want to send customers to see all of my galleries??? I think your team from QSC and from OPF need to get together and work some things out. Please do it quickly!!!

Since I sell car-parts, there are several different cars I sell to and it would be easiest to have a category list for each car; instead, I have to create a category for each car and sub-categories for each group of parts, then the product in each. After drilling all the way down to the product, you still don't see the list of categories you've gone through in the "category list"...just the one "Home" category. Is this something being addressed? If not is this a known issue that will be addressed? At present, all of these issues are making it hard for me to keep my store here when my competitors' sites have the flexibilities that mine lacks. Thank you for your attention to this. Sincerely,

      Greetings Sean,

Within the preview on your cart  , to the right of the left navigation  there's a "breadcrumb" trail  that provides links back to the path taken  e.g  from your preview site.  Top Shelf  >> Gto >> Appearance >> Exterior which provide the same feature as including it in the main navigation for categories.

Thank you, I do see this but don't like it...let's face it, that's an old way of doing things and with current standards for menu drop-downs or nested folders, the average customer is looking to see these options easily selectable from the menu on the left--that allows a quick jump from one category to another and the entire category structure in plain site, as opposed to the linear view of the breadcrumbs. Now I know this CAN'T be a hard fix...I'll be your guinea pig if you want to do a beta!!! Thx. -Sean@TopShelf

    Hey John,

Thanks for the response, it's good to know that you guys are listening. The issue of ease of use vs customization is definitely at the heart of all the other issues. In terms of flexibility and required IT/programming knowledge, Godaddy should really offer 2 different levels of shopping cart:

    (1) a cart that is very basic and it is okay for it to lack many advanced features; built-in html/text editor to avoid requiring knowledge of code and entering code--designed to let really ANYONE with no prior experience set it up quickly; meant for the customer who sells just a few items and does not have a need for anything more...

    (2) an advanced version that contains the same basic setup as it does now, but allows MANY more features and MUCH more customization: addresses all issues presented by current customers and known bugs; allows more master "Category Lists" for multiple product lines or applications; allows additional pages to be added, i.e. provide actual page and not just a re-direct to another web address...uses templates similar to the current "Contact Us" or "About Us" pages but provides for FULL CSS/html control & editing of the entire page area; integrates a "photo filer" or folder allowing organization of imgs at a central location as opposed to the imgs being attached directly to the product--allowing the excel spreadsheet product list to be updateable with pics by using their assigned url listed in a populated drop down box just like the mfrs and categores are now; it should provide for a better viewer allowing a badge to be used for the product photo and badging with controlled links (i.e. back to the pic url only or link to a slideshow OUTSIDE of the current location at OPF-"All Galleries" that displays ALL public galleries; allows slideshow to be used as a badge with medium sized pics and clicking for full size pic in new window and nowhere for customers to go), a possibility would be similar to how the FLASH-badge is setup now but allowing larger size preview/thumbs and upon mouseover enlarge photo (and of course, link to nothing or the photo only)--not far from what it is now...honestly, what were they thinking with that flash badge as it is now? pictures just randomly popping up from tiny to just-bigger-than-tiny doesn't allow a decent view and is generally distracting; depending on the one you choose, badging currently ONLY takes either a set number of pics you select (6/9/12) or all of them! how about letting us select which ones to be used (many times I'll need a photo there to be used elsewhere but don't want it to show with the badge or slideshow; more templates with increased control and more professional appearance; ...you get the idea.

Alright you've got some good feedback, now wow us customers with awesome updates!

    Thanks,

    -Sean@TopShelf

      Greetings Sean,

I'm still looking into your prior post on search and should get to it in a "little while" (tm) . Firstly  I'm in agreement with regards to  a "high speed, low drag"  cart that fulfills those functions and while the shopping cart is feature rich the hobbyist user may not touch, or even need, most of the functionality it's something I've been considering.

Number 2.  This one's quite a list which thankfully matches up with our roadmap in many places.   We're heading more in that direction with increasing, and one day I hope, full customization of the site being possible. Improving the  images for bulk upload and the badge customization are also items we're looking at.

    I'd like to second this:

"I would love to see a customizable form that can be created specifically for the quick books integration, Information that would be exported into quickbooks along with the order."

    Right now we have
    - 1 item
    - 1 customer

All our inventory/accounting is in quickbooks. Quick Shopping Cart doesn't really help us keep our inventory straight (since we only sell 1 item - QSC item) and REALLY hurts us when a customer calls since we don't have there complete order history in QuickBooks since all orders are attributed to the phantom Quick Shopping Cart Customer. Changing this would be HUGE.

I'm hoping that a solution for my problem is available, but so far no luck. Here we go, the majority of my items have different colors available. The problem that I'm having is that I can't differentiate the # of each color in my inventory. Ex. I have 10 products, 5 blue and 5 green. In the shopping cart if a customer wants to order 10 green it will allow them because I can't advise that I only have 5 green and not 10. I guess the quick fix for this is making each color a seperate product, but now I'm over my 100 product limit when in actuality I only have 30 products, just different colors of each. My store is due to open next week and after all this hard work of uploading products, I'm just ready to go with another company to host my shopping cart:-(
    Any suggestions??

      Greetings Kondra,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback  on QSC.  I'm afraid to say you have already identified the quick way to fix this and the limitation encountered by  doing so.  We're looking at better ways of handling inventory in regards to  products with different attributes carrying separate inventory levels within a future release but it's unlikely that it's close to your time preference  for doing so.  If you're already hitting the limit with this many products  I'm afraid that either allowing users to create the orders and  , assuming inventory can be restocked quickly, waiting till more can be sourced or locating a cart that better fits your sales model at this time.  Please let me know if there's any other issues I can assist with.
