Quick Shopping Cart 1.9.4 Updates
You told us what you wanted, and we listened! Here are some changes that were made to Quick Shopping Cart® in the 1.9.4 release:
Reduced requirements for password strength
Login accounts for both shoppers on the storefront and Administrative application users now have reduced requirements for password strength. Passwords can now be a minimum of 7 characters and no longer must contain a special character. While the password rules still comply with industry security rules for eCommerce, I think removing the special character requirement should offer some relief.
The new requirements: Passwords must contain at least 7 characters and comprise at least one letter and one number. Passwords are case sensitive.
Guest checkout more prominent
The sign-in screen that displays during checkout has been redesigned to make it more obvious that shoppers do not need to log in to complete checkout. Specifically, we moved the "Continue as guest" choice to the top of the page.
Thank you for using Quick Shopping Cart, and I wish you successful selling.

Thanks, Cindy Great News and Much Appreciated!
Regards,
Roy
I have an issue and some suggestions that we really need for our site.
First thing, we have enabled free shipping with orders of 75 or over. Twice now, the shopping cart did not take off the shipping. An order we received last night for 118.00 should have triggered free shipping but it did not and we almost lost this customer because they thought we were fraudulantly advertising.
Next, We need more control over sidebar items. The fonts are too small and we should have the ability to add buttons or something? Also, when going to different categories, the sidebar should show the subcategories instead of the main categories. This something we really need.
Also, the ability to add graphics, change the header, etc. And possible to edit text on the check out page.
Another thing that would be nice, is more mechant account interfaces. Such as Netbilling. They are incredible for stores who need high risk merchant accounts and they also do echeck processing. Or possibly the ability to add a plug in?? We are actually considering changing providers because of this and inventory control....my next issue.
Inventory is impossible with Quick Shopping Cart. We need the ability to add a certain number of items for each size of an item. Right now, we have to lump it altogether. Example: PinkDress We need to be able to put 4 small, 5 Medium, 6 large. We actually sold out of a size because of tracking issues with Godaddy.
Hopefully these items will be coming soon and the issue with free shipping will be resolved? We are a new company and cannot afford to lose our brand new customers.
Thanks.
Hi Beverly,
I checked your account, and the reason free shipping is no longer being applied to new orders is that you have the Maximum Number of Uses on your Free Shipping promotion set to 2. The promotion has been used twice, so it will no longer be applied.
Please note that the Maximum Number of Uses is not applied per customer, but across all customers. Its intended use is for a promotion such as "Act Now! First 10 orders get Free Shipping!"
If you want to offer free shipping on all orders, change the Maximum Number of Uses to "Unlimited Uses".
We are also looking at the other items you requested. Many of them are planned for future releases. We will look at NETbilling. We do offer the VeloCT/FastTransact option for high-risk accounts.

Cindy
I like some of the improvements -- especially the more accurate USPS shipping estimates!
I do have two feature requests that I think would be helpful:
1.) A Packing Slip feature which, similar to the invoice, could be placed inside completed orders.
2.) A "Gift Certificate" feature that would allow users to specify an amount to pre-pay, then an email address and ID to which that certificate can be attached.
Hi Paul,
These are great suggestions! Both of these features are on the roadmap for future development.

When printing a "print and call" invoice, I would like the ability to change the Comments since many times an order is placed and we just want to send the invoice to the customer. The automatic comment " Please call xxxxx to place an order" is no longer approprite. Can this be accomplished.
Hi Bob,
This is a great suggestion and it is on our development roadmap.

Just recently signed up to Quick Shopping Cart and am enjoying it so far. One small problem I have run across are occasional incorrect email addresses being entered by the customer inadvertently. There should be a mandatory "confirm email" field on the customer shipping info to avoid this.
Thanks!
David,
Thanks for the suggestion. We have added this as a storefront preference on the roadmap for future development.
I do have some good news in that the you will be able to modify the email address of an existing order in the next release.

I have a few suggestions to improve the success of our shoppers buying from us. The rule of thumb for designing a website is to limit the number of clicks it takes a shopper to make a purchase. Currently, the QSC takes 10 clicks to complete an order.
1 select a category
2 select a sub-category
3 click product options
4 click the add to cart button
5 checkout
6 continue checkout after typing user name & password or as guest
7 continue after selecting shipping method
8 place order after selecting payment type
9 continue after entering credit card info
10 confirm & submit payment
Suggestions:
1 combine steps 1 & 2 by having a drop down menu appear that is linked to each category.
2 put a box around the categories (like a big button) This will add to the overall appeal.
3 get rid of the brief description page and put the detailed description on the product catalog page with the add to cart, price, part #, & options. There is plenty of empty space on the general catalog page- you don’t need to separate the two, it just adds to the click count.
4 put the credit card info in with step 8
This by no means will make it perfect, but it’s a start. I would like to hear what other users think? Any additional suggestions on streamlining the purchasing process?
Hi, I am brand new to quick shopping cart, but have been in retail for a very long time. I love how easy it is to use, but I have some suggestions.
I agree with Beverly that we need control over the side bar, especially the size of the text and showng sub-catagories.
We definately need to be able to input qty based on size not just lump sum. I will go crazy.
We also need larger pictures on the product pages. The initial picture is to small. That size probably works for some companies, but with clothing, bigger is better.
I would also like the ability to have multiple pictures for 1 item. For example a pair of jeans. I would love to show the front, back and a detail shot.
This one may be simple, but we would like to be able to change link colors without changing all the text colors. We have a white link on a blue background looks good, but when another link is on a white background we can't see it.
We also need the ability to change the header. I have a graphic logo on the top left and then to the right of it, it says my store name and slogan. I would prefer to have a graphic going across the entire top.
Last but not least. If there was a way to set how many items you wanted going horizontally and vertically per page, that would be great.
Thanks and keep up the good work. The program is a great help.

I've only visited this blog site a few times, and have been fairly impressed, and alarmed at comments made. I have a QSC site and am very pleased with it. Although, in setting up my domain, I wish I made aware of certain options before committing. But, that is nothing that can't be taken care of when I renew my domain, which so far, will definitely happen. Now, in lieu of comments made about new features coming to QSC, I would like to make a suggestion. How about adding a feature such as "Referrals". It could be integrated into the "Site Promotion", even with coupons. As it stands, the coupons can only be generated for amount, type, or free shipping / handling. Adding this option could definitely be a marketing AND business boost for those of us that have QSC's! Just a thought.
Hi Kevin
That is a very interesting idea. I will forward it on to our marketing department.
Thanks for the contribution.

First of all thank you for offering a product that makes it very quick to put up a fully functional shopping cart with little to no effort. I do have to agree with Beverly in that there has to be a way to tie inventory levels to options. I actually struggle to think of a way that options with out inventory levels would be useful, unless of course it's a product that's being manufactured on demand, but in that case there would be no need for inventory levels in the first place. Please, please, please move that feature into the next release, or a release in the near future.
Thanks,
Brian

Multiple pictures would help greatly. Also quantity per size (options).
Hi Keith
This is something that has been brought up by other customers and we are looking at our options on the best way to accomplish this.
Thanks for the contribution.

Gift certificates (cards) are a must have.

My business does not ship but allows custoemrs to order and then pick up. After investing a bit of time and effort into the construction of my site I doscovered the site is essentially unusable for me without the ability to customize messages in invoices, email notifications and at checkout. I need to clearly instruct the user on pickup instructions and I cannot communicate this in any way since the checkout screen message and the confirmation email messages are hard coded. What are the plans to make these configurable? I wish I knew of this limitation before I signed up and developed the site to the extent that I did. Now I have to find an alternative solution.
Hi Paul
I understand your frustations with these limitations. We have a development effort under way to improve the flexibility of the administrator functions that will, in the future, enable more advanced configuration options like what you are talking about here.
Thanks for the contribution.

It has beeen wonderful working with the QSC. Much easier that I had expected. I do however agree with Beverly. I make bath products and candles and currently have to list all items seperately. I need to be able to list category as Candles and then have buttons for the different scents. Currently have to have customers add that information in the special instrucions portion on the check out screen. Hope this is coming soon. Thanks, Dawn
Cindy,
I've had QSC for about 2 months now and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I would like to know if there is development, or access to a site "counter" that won't affect the security of the site. In other words, I know my site is secure, but to import anything not originally available, would give the visitor/customer a pop-up stating "this site contains secure and non-secure items,..blah blah blah." I advertise my site is secure, and to import anything not original "Go-Daddy" content that would give that pop-up, could potentially scare a customer off. Is there something available or in the works?
Hi Kevin
We have had other customers requesting this feature and it is something we are looking into.
Thanks for the contribution.

Needed is a section where users can request bug fixes. Take the mysterious half-programmed download feature so essential to software and ebook vendors.
Bug 1: When description is edited, source of upload is erased and must be reentered.
Bug 2: What does "limit on downloads" mean. Would "1" mean that only person can download that product or that each purchaser cab only download one copy.
Bug 3: Why are my customers required to enter a shipping address, when no product is to be shipped.
Bug 4: On the checkout page why is there a box labeled shipping address--no product will be shipped!!
Bug 5: On the checkout page the following message should appear: "as soon as your credit authorized, you will receive an email telling you where to download your product."
Bug 6: Do away with the email. Instead, as soon as transaction is authorized, display a download button!!
Hi phil, I'll do my best to answer your questions.
1) I edited digital product descriptions in a test store and I was unable to reproduce your issue. When editing digital products, you will see in the download section a label "Current Product:" filename.ext ( 135.56 kb). You can edit the product attributes without changing the download product and it's location.
2) Limit on downloads is per paying customer. So if you set it to "1" that would mean that each paying customer can download the product 1 time.
3) Payment gateways require that information in order to process credit card transactions.
4) We collect the information required in item 3 (above) in this manner.
5) This is a good suggestion that we will take into consideration for a future release.
6) Since the QSC storefront only pre-auths orders it is not possible to provide the download until the funds have been captured. This is why the email with the download instructions is sent out upon admin order capture.
