What happens to my uploaded images?
Greetings, my name is Greg, I’m a lead developer on the Quick Shopping Cart® team. I have been with GoDaddy.com® for a year and a half and have worked on enhancing the product and implementing new features. My team’s goal is to make Quick Shopping Cart the best in its class. As we progress towards our goal, we will be sharing tips and tricks for using Quick Shopping Cart to its fullest potential.
What happens to my uploaded images?
You can upload images to your Quick Shopping Cart to display as your store logo, category, and product images. Quick Shopping Cart allows you to upload JPGs, animated GIFs, transparent GIFs, PNGs, and BMPs.
You can also showcase your products by uploading large images that allow your customers to zoom in and out while viewing a product (see the Interactive Image Viewer section).
The following is a list of images, with JPG format max. dimensions and where they will be displayed, that can be uploaded into Quick Shopping Cart:
| Image | Max. Dimensions (In Pixels) |
Displayed |
| Logo | 150 X 75 | Header on each page Top of invoices |
| Welcome Message Image | 300 X 300 | Home Page |
| Category Thumbnail | 60 X 60 | Category Page Style: 1, 2 |
| Category Image | 175 X 175 | Category Page Style: 3, 4 |
| Product Thumbnail | 60 X 60 | Category Page Style: 1, 2, 4 Featured Product Search Results |
| Product Image Standard | 175 X 175 | Category Page Style: 3 Product Page Style: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 |
| Product Zoom | 400 x 400 | Product Zoom Window |
| Product Interactive Image Viewer Preview | 365 X 466 ( minimum) |

Uploading JPG Format Images
When you upload a JPG image, Quick Shopping Cart will compare the dimensions of the image to the appropriate type from the above list. If necessary it will reduce the image, keeping the aspect ratio, until both dimensions fit within the specified dimensions.
Uploading PNG and BMP Format Images
When you upload PNG or BMP image, Quick Shopping Cart converts the image to JPG format and resizes it according to the JPG dimensions.
Uploading GIF Format Images
When you upload a GIF image, Quick Shopping Cart does not resize the image. This will require that you manually set the image height and width in an image editing program before uploading the image. You can upload an animated GIF, which the storefront displays as animated, and you can upload transparent GIFs so that the background color shows through the transparent areas.
- Uploading a GIF image for the logo will allow the image to span the entire header, beware however that this same image is also used on invoices so you will need to test for both locations.
Interactive Image Viewer
To display images in the Interactive Image Viewer, you must upload images at least 365 pixels wide and 466 pixels high in JPG, PNG, or BMP format. You must also select Interactive Image Viewer from Product Image Enlargement in your Storefront Preferences.
Here is a Quick Shopping Cart site that is showcasing their products with the Interactive Image Viewer.
Remember, this is a live site, so completing the checkout process will place an actual order.

Tip: An image with larger dimensions will allow for a more dramatic zoom.
Product - Quick Form
You can only upload the Standard Image, Quick Shopping Cart converts the image to JPG format and makes two copies of the image (Thumbnail and Zoom) and resizes them according to their JPG dimensions. To provide a separate file for each image size, you can switch to the Advanced Form.
Uploading GIF Format Images
When you upload a GIF image from the Product Quick Form, Quick Shopping Cart makes a copy of the image, converts the image to JPG format and resizes it according to the JPG dimensions.

I would like to know how to upload pictures with an import. Recently I uploaded into my store several thousand products and in the process found out that for each item I would have to do a picture. Is there a way to upload with the product or please develop quickly to make this a much easier and less time consuming process.
Pat,
Unfortunately right now there is no way to upload images with an import. A bulk image upload feature is on our roadmap for future development, and import will be enhanced to take advantage of that feature when it becomes available.
Thanks for writing,
Greg
Greg,
I also suffer with the individual image upload limitation. Please put this at the top of the development list. Until then, can you please provide more details regarding the following comment in your main post:
"Product - Quick Form

It seems that this "Quick Form" option is a way to speed up manual product uploads (one upload instead of three per product). However, I see now way to access this option in the Catalog Manager. How do you use this feature?
In addition, if I use this Quick Form option, and upload a larger-than-400x400 JPG image as the Standard Image, will all three images be automatically sized upon upload?
Thanks,
Matt
Matt,
I should have been more specific that the "Quick Form" is only available when adding a product to your catalog. When adding a product you can switch between the "Advanced Form" and "Quick Form".
Using the Quick Form to upload a larger-than-400x400 JPG image will automatically resize the image for the three versions, Thumbnail, Standard and Zoom.
Regards,
Greg
Is there anyway that we can have the product thumbnail showup at a much larger size. We would prefer if they were 175x175. We are dealing with clothing and when you show a full body shot in 60 pixels, you can't really get an idea of what the item is. Thanks
Stephen,
Please try using Category Style 3, it uses the standard product image (175x175) instead of the product thumbnail.
Hope this helps,
Greg
I really like the table at the top of the article, since it specifies which image is used in what layouts. Is there any other documentation that describes the many other differences between the layouts? It is just way too time consuming to keep trying one after another, since the changes are spread over so many pages.
Even better, I would like to be able to have more control over the layouts. It is REALLY challenging to come up with one that works well on each page type.
I visited that website link that is currently using your shopping cart...it had an image of its logo as a header across the entire top of the shopping cart pages....I would like to do that as well, how would I go about doing that instead of having the address/phone fields on the header like we do now?
Hi Greg
In your Storefront Information screen you can insert a large .GIF formatted image in the logo field that will span across the top. Then, leave the address/phone fields blank. Note that company name is a required field, so you can put in a "." here but it will show up (as it does in the example).
Thanks for the contribution.

Isn't there a way to tell us the address of the images? Also it would help if we could use html to code the alignment of the images (if we knew the address of them), since our Welcome page squishes the text over instead of letting me code the img align to wrap the text around our image. Thanks
Currently the image references are dynamically generated each time an image is uploaded into Quick Shopping Cart.
It is on our roadmap to include the reference to the welcome image within the welcome text not in a seperate table.
Possible workaround: Host the image outside of QSC and reference the image from within the welcome text. This would allow you to manipulate all the image attributes.

Greg
For a more professional appearance, I'd really like to use a logo in the header that spans the entire width (750px) of the web site header. Is there a template available for this? From a designers perspective, the current templates are VERY limiting.
Hi Debbie
We are working on improving the flexibility of the storefront templates.

Your request is already on our roadmap with the added ablitity of customers being able to provide HTML for the header and footer content.
As a work around I would suggest uploading a gif image that is 750px wide.

Greg
I'm a web designer/developr, but I'm incapable of creating my own shopping cart for clients. I signed a client on with the QSC. From what I've experienced so far, it would be nice if I could create a header image that colspans the entire width (750px) for my clients store branding. Currently, it's divided into three 's. Using a logo thats only 150 px wide and html text for the company name looks so bad : (
Couldn't a Theme be created for customers who'd like to use a 750 px image for the company header area?
